Roxette went on to record their debut album Pearls of Passion in 1986 soon followed by Look Sharp! Although the duo was well known in Sweden, they did not yet make a name for themselves outside of Europe. They actually got their fame accidentally when an American exchange student studying in Sweden heard their song The Look and brought a copy of Roxette’s album home for his holiday break. He ended up giving the album to a radio station in Minneapolis, Minnesota to play and share. Soon after the song received a lot of positive feedback and quickly spread across other radio stations.
After their international success, the duo released multiple studio albums and went on many European and world wide tours. After the release of their Room Service album however, Roxette took a break from recording and touring when Fredriksson was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Gessle returned to his solo career during this time and even reunited with Gyllene Tider. After 8 years, they reunited and released their newer album Charm School. Unfortunately, after a long battle with her brain tumour, Fredriksson passed away in 2019 at the age of 61.
Given that, their music has left a long lasting impact on many people all around the world. Their songs It Must Have Been Love and Listen to Your Heart continue to be played on the radio to this day. They have received countless awards and have sold over 75 million records worldwide. Roxette takes the name as Sweden’s second best selling music act right after ABBA.
