N°85 Zara Larsson

Zara Larsson is a popular pop singer originating from Stockholm, best known for her songs Lush Life, Ruin My Life, and Never Forget You. The now 24 year old artist started her professional music career at the young age of 10 when she won the second season of the talent show Talang (the Swedish version of Got Talent). The song that won her the finale, My Heart Will Go On, originally sung by Canadian artist Celine Dion, was released soon after her win as Larsson’s debut single.

In early 2010, Larsson and her manager Laila Bagge flew out to Los Angeles to jump start her musical career. She met with all three big record label companies (Universal Music Group, Sony Music, and Warner Music Group) but because of her young age, she was not signed on. However, just two years later, she was signed with TEN Music Group and started recording her debut album 1

After the success of 1, Larsson released the single Lush Life in 2015. It was this song that made this Swedish singer known globally. It reached number one single and was certified 4x platinum in Sweden, reached the top 5 in 18 countries, and got certified platinum in 16 countries. Since then, she has headlined 3 world tours and has opened for other artists including Ed Sheeran, Clean Bandit, and Cher Lloyd.

Throughout her career Larsson has made herself known in advocating for women’s rights and addressing other political issues happening around the world. She has been quoted to receive her openness of opinions from her parents being educated in social issues and “being woke about what’s going on in the world”. Although she has received a lot of hate for her opinions, this does not stop her from participating in activist movements online.
