Leena Krohn was born in Helsinki, Finland on February 28, 1947. She has established herself as a very successful author having written numerous different types of works, including novels, short tales, picture books, and essays. She explores issues such as morality, the line separating truth and illusion, and the challenge of life in her writings, particularly through the study of various forms of artificial intelligence. She has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to writing about technology, she started writing about the Internet as early as the early 90s. Her works are translated into more than 20 languages.
Krohn has received numerous awards for her work, and among them was the 1992 Finlandia Prize for Literature. Perhaps her most popular book, Tainaron (1985) received the huge honor of being nominated for the World Fantasy Award and International Horror Guild Award. The concept of the book is intriguing since it is made up of a collection of messages that an insect metropolis sends out into the world. It is a book of transformations that discusses how all of nature undergoes metamorphoses, from a flea to a star, from stone and grass to a person. With this different and interesting plot, it is not hard to see why the world became obsessed with it. Regarded as one of Finnish literature’s greatest geniuses, Krohn still writes and lives in Helsinki today.
