Ingvar E. Sigurðsson is one of Iceland’s most beloved actors. This multiple awarded artist has an extended body of work under his belt, both domestically and internationally, and has shown on many levels how versatile his talent is. Apart from theatre work, which he does a lot of, he has played in music videos, tv shows and a lot of movies.

Ingvar was born in 1963 in Reykjavík. In 1990, he graduated from the Icelandic Drama School. A year later, he was hired by the National Theatre and has since then not lacked job opportunities. There is hardly an Icelandic movie or a tv series made without him in it 🙂

After more than a decade working in the Icelandic scene, Ingvar got a small role in Kathryn Bigalow’s K-19: The Widowmaker in the year 2002, playing beside Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson. After that his partake in international productions have been steadily increasing.

Saying that, it’s also important to bear in mind that in recent years the Icelandic film industry has exploded and a lot more national productions are being shown in movie theatres outside of the island as well as on streaming platforms that are accessible to foreign viewers. Consequently, Icelandic actors are also getting more exposure.

You can find Ingvar in movies such as Everest, Justice League & Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Fantastic Beast: The Crimes of Grindelwald, The Northman and A White, white day. Also, in tv shows like Succession, Trapped, Katla and Killing Eve.
