Dag Krister Volle, better known for his stage name Denniz Pop, was a popular DJ, music producer, and songwriter. Born in Sweden to Norwegian immigrants he is known as one of Scandanavians most influential musicians. He began his DJ career in the 1980’s by producing remixed records.
This gained him enough recognition to eventually release his own original songs starting with producing Dr. Alban’s single Hello Afrika in 1990. It was through this success that he later co-founded the Cheiron Studios in Stockholm with Tom Talomaa in 1992. It was during this time where he both wrote and produced several songs for artists including Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, N’Sync, and Robyn.
Unfortunately, at the young age of 35 Volle passed away from a battle with stomach cancer. It was in 2013 that the Denniz Pop Awards were created by the former members of Cheiron Studios to help give recognition to Scandinavian songwriters, producers and artists. To honour Volle and his work, many of the artists he worked alongside dedicated their work to him. The Backstreet Boys dedicated their Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely music video to him alongside Jessica Folker’s song A Little Bit Longer and Britney Spears dedicating her award for Best Song at the 1999 MTV Europe Music Awards to him.
