Born in Stavanger, singer, songwriter and record producer Aurora Aksness (better known for her stage name AURORA) has become one of Norway’s up and coming artists. Since she was little, Aurora had always been interested in singing, along with nature and traditional clothing. It was when she was only six years old that she learned to play the piano, focusing on classical songs. It was only three years later when she began writing songs. Some of her early compositions include works such as I Had A Dream, Running with the Wolves, and I Went Too Far.
Much of AURORA’s music is inspired from artists including Lenoard Cohen, Bob Dylan, and The Chemical Brothers. That being said, her music is a mixture of an eclectic, pop, Nordic-folk style. She has even been compared to famous Icelandic singer Björk because of their similar love for Nordic folklore. In turn, AURORA has been named as Scandinavia’s newest dark pop prodigy.
In 2012, AURORA released her first single Puppet, this started off her musical career which also led to the singing with her labels Glassnote Records and Decca Records. With the release of a variety of other singles throughout the year, AURORA released her first album in 2016. Since then she has toured around Europe playing her songs for thousands.
AURORA has gained a lot of recognition just in the past couple of years. You may know her from one of her first single releases, Runaway, a popular sound and trend on Tik Tok! Her voice may also be recognized from the popular Walt Disney film, Frozen 2 where she is featured on the song Into the Unknown with Idina Menzel. Since the release of the film she has also gone on to record a solo version that can be seen here.
