Nº68 Off Bloom

Music producers, Alex Flockhart, Mads Christensen, and Mette Mortensen formed the group Off Bloom in 2015 in hopes of producing “deconstructed pop” music. The name is inspired by the Nirvana song In Bloom. The Danish-British trio began producing music in between an apartment in Bethnal Green in London and a studio in Copenhagen and have collaborated with artists including Liss, Kill J and Vera.

It was a year after their grouping that Off Bloom produced their debut EP, Love To Hate It through Sport Records. The EP consists of 5 tracks including Orchid, Marie, and Thorns

Their success sky-rocketed and from 2016 to 2018 the band toured almost non-stop, including as a warm-up band for Dua Lipa. This time was not only very hectic but there was also a breach of trust between the band and their management as it became clear that their finances were badly managed and their funds leaking.

The management problem was a real wake-up call for the band and a learning experience. They decided to take their power back, so they redrew from touring as much and focused on regaining their love for music.

Off Bloom’s debut studio album, In Bloom, came out just a few months ago. It was 5 years in the making and in the process they changed from a trio to a duo as Flockhart left in 2020 to pursue other projects. The split was peaceful and the remaining members have said that this album is a tribute to the original trio and their friendship.
